OUR ARTISTIC EDUCATION VALUES
A Home for Artists
SEED is a POC owned and operated art studio exploring culture through teaching the craft of clay. SEED’s curriculum is rooted in celebrating, exploring, & honoring the techniques, forms, & processes of the BIPOC clay community past and present. Giving context and cultural information through the forms, techniques and ornamentation. SEED welcomes all members of the community & prides itself on being a safe and accessible space.
Founded in 2021, SEED was created by artist SiouxBean. Being a fully assimilated person of color, Siouxbean gains access to the knowledge of his various cultures thru the mediums of clay and food. With 20 years of experience in Ceramics and a BFA from California College of the Arts. SiouxBean Understands the difficulties associated with access to quality facilities that safely support. SEED is a space where all cultures, Black, Indigenous and People Of Color can feel safe to explore the medium of clay craft, as well as their own history and the roots of others.
Culture, Community & Clay
A look inside the vision and mission of SEED
Brighter and Stronger Artists
SEED runs a “DRY” studio, as it is fully mindful and encompassing in it’s water usage. From utilizing clay scraps, to providing various “studio” clay bodies, to processing the finest “waste” particles into their house pots, plates, & bisque programs. These process programs utilize and manage our waste material, providing a platform for education in both the student and the teacher. SEED provides another avenue for makers on all levels to gain a wider understanding of the clay medium through various internship and apprentice programs.
SACRAMENTO CLAY COMMUNITY
We believe in building up the clay community in Sacramento and that includes supporting other local businesses working in the medium. Looking for a service or schedule that better suits you? Check out our friends in the community:

THE PAPER PLATE PROJECT
Bringing Artists & Chefs Together
The Paper Plate Project was born out of the restaurant woes of the pandemic. The Paper Plate Project offers a chance to help highlight and give access to those Chefs that have survived on running their own “paper plate” restaurants. These food programs were made possible by determination, hard work, and a nurturing community. How it works- once The Paper Plate Project has selected a Chef for residency, the Chef will be highlighted online and given an online market space to promote their art. They will also be gifted a set of plates from SEED to help them on their culinary journey. At the end of the Chef’s residency term, SEED will host a collaborative pop up with them and one of SEED’s resident artists. Purchase a paper plate, Chefs meal, or ticket to a pop up to help support.
